Experiments in Expanded Translation
On the 6th of May 2023, Wil René and I performed the following piece at Rich Mix in Shoreditch.
Poet and event organiser S.J. Fowler had invited us to collaborate as part of the European Poetry Festival’s Dutch night. Unsure at first what our contribution might be, we eventually decided to merge Will’s prior experience as a sound artist with connective sounds we discovered in various Dutch poems across two anthologies: 100 Dutch-language poems (Holland Park Press, 2015) and Grand Larcenies: Translations and Imitations of Ten Dutch Poets (Carcanet, 2021).
Once we realised how to incorporate the Catling piece, everything else quickly fell into place.
